Govenda automatically signs you out after a period of inactivity to protect sensitive board materials. This article explains how it works and how to adjust your settings.
What you'll see before being signed out
Before signing you out, Govenda displays a warning:
"Session Expiration Warning — Due to inactivity, your session is about to expire."
You have 30 seconds to click "Stay Signed In". If you don't respond, you'll be signed out automatically.
What counts as "activity"
The following actions inside the Govenda application reset the inactivity timer:
- Mouse movement
- Clicking
- Scrolling
- Keyboard input
Important: Activity in other applications, other browser tabs, or other websites does NOT reset the Govenda timer. This is the most common reason people are surprised by a timeout — they were active on their computer but not within the Govenda tab.
When the timeout timer is automatically paused
- Editing a document in Office Online: Timer is paused — you won't be signed out while actively editing.
- Active Presentation Mode: Timer is paused during presentations.
All your Govenda browser tabs share the same timeout timer. If one tab shows the timeout warning, all tabs will. Interacting with any Govenda tab resets the timer for all of them.
How to change your timeout setting
- Go to Settings in Govenda.
- Look for Auto-Signout Setting.
- Choose your preferred duration from the available options (typically ranging from 1 minute to 100 minutes).
- The default is usually around 45 minutes.
The mobile app has a separate timeout setting that may differ from your web setting. You can adjust it in the mobile app under Settings > Auto Sign Out.
I was signed out but I was actively using my computer
This almost always happens because Govenda was in a background browser tab while you were working in another application. The timer doesn't pause for background tabs. You may have missed the 30-second countdown warning because it appeared in a tab you weren't looking at.
Tip: If you're going to be working in other applications, consider increasing your session timeout or keeping the Govenda tab visible.
"Forced sign-out"
If you see a "forced sign-out" message on the login page, this means:
- Your administrator manually signed you out from the admin portal.
- Your session was invalidated for security reasons (such as a password change or account security update).
- Your authentication token was revoked by the system.
